My First & Second Presentation At University
Well Well Well,
I finally had my first and second presentation at university this week.
The first one was for the Marketing Fundamentals Module, on Wednesday 2nd April. We reached university early that day to rehearse and because Raised Plaza was taken up with the job fair, we went to NAC, near room G3. While we were each practicing our part of the presentation, something really funny happened which alleviated the stress a bit. There was the attendant responsible for the classrooms in NAC who noticed us as if we were talking to ourselves alone. And he was like “Mamzelle, mo reste Beau Bassin pres kot lopital Brown Sequard!” We were taken aback by what he said but we finally understood and that made us laugh so much that for a while we forgot we had a presentation ahead.
Tasneem Rehearsing in NAC:
By 9.15, we were already in class. Honestly I was damn nervous. We were the 5th or 6th group to present. The presentation title was: “Identify a product of your choice and list the different brands that are available on the market. What are the bases that have been used for their segmentation? What are the groups targeted by the manufacturers? How is the brand positioned in the market?”
The presentation started on very well with Ashesh who was the host and who introduced all of us and the topic as well. Then he talked about the first part of the question which was about the identification of the product. Next, was Avish who listed the different brands and the underlying concept as follows—“If I were to take you and break you into small parts and even in the form of atoms, and sell you in the market, how much would I get?— The answer logically would be Rs10.00 or Rs 100.00! But now, if I were to take you as a whole and stick the name tag of Tiger Woods or Bill Gates, how much will I get now?—The answer would be Rs 1 000 000 or even more.” Then we moved on to Bhavna & Ashnee who elaborated on the bases of segmentation. Tasneem took over about the target groups. And finally, it was my turn to talk about positioning. I started coolly and calmly, but to my great surprise Miss Gungaphul interrupted me to announce that I only few minutes left and I were to wrap up everything. I got panicked and became hyper nervous which was clearly visible and noticeable though I had only 3 slides to cover. I was able to end in the given time but I had to skip a few points.
Our Marketing Group:
My second presentation was on Saturday 5th April for the Accounting & Financial Analysis Module, and this was much better than the first one. And I think it is because I was able to gain some more confidence about presentation stuff. We however lost some marks during questions/answers time.
The topic was: “Explain the different ways that companies “cook the books”? Illustrate with examples to what extent the current regulatory framework can counteract such malpractices. According to you, what more can be done?” Well this topic is really vast, and an attempt to cover all the aspects will require more than 20 minutes. However, we had to condense everything due to time constraint. According to Mrs Ramlugun, the report, powerpoint and presentation was very good, we nevertheless failed in the questions/answers part, and who is to be blamed, I will not mention!!!
Our Accounting Group:
And finally, some of us–Like Tasneem, Shabneez, Ritesh & I, required a really very good sleep since we worked collaboratively till very late night ( till 2.00-2.30 am) some times. And this long week end served this purpose.
